Drahtlos ins Internet: WLAN in Rom

Because according to current regulations, it is mandatory to identify anyone accessing the Internet. The SIM number is used in lieu of an identification document, since this will have already been provided at the time the SIM card was purchased from a telephone service provider. As this identification procedure may differ across countries, for foreign users an OTP (One Time Password) will be provided upon presentation of an identification document.

Vgl. Terms & Conditions

Ergänzung: Wie dieser Artikel Free Wi-Fi in the capital with Digit Roma: more than 700 public access points and loads of services offered | Italian Venue von Januar 2013 beschreibt, wird die Möglichkeit der Nutzung ohne ein italienische SIM-Karte wohl erst in "naher" Zukunft gegeben sein.

A registration process that will enable those holding a foreign SIM to use the service will also be available in the near future.

first of all I like to thank you for your interest about our City.

About your question for the free WiFi access “Digit Roma” I have to specify that unfortunately there is a little but important different between the Italian and English version of the FAQs.

That means that for users that own an international SIM card shortly it will be possible to register to this service.

At the FAQs point 4 (ENGLISH VERSION) there is only written:

“Anyone who has a mobile device (notebook, smart phone or tablet) can register by simply providing their first name, last name, e-mail and telephone number, if in possession of an Italian SIM card.”

Moreover at the FAQs point 5 (ITALIAN VERSION) there is written:

The FAQs point 5 (ENGLISH VERSION) tells according completely to the Italian version:

“Because according to current regulations, it is mandatory to identify anyone accessing the Internet. The SIM number is used in lieu of an identification document, since this will have already been provided at the time the SIM card was purchased from a telephone service provider. As this identification procedure may differ across countries, for foreign users an OTP (One Time Password) will be provided upon presentation of an identification document.

Therefore I am sorry for this important difference between the two versions, but at the moment the registration for owner of international SIM cards is not possible.

I take this opportunity to inform you that visiting our website www.060608.it, the internet information service of the municipality of Rome specifically designed for tourism and culture in the city of Rome, you will find all the information you need to organize a wonderful and complete vacation in our city.

Gentile Cittadino,
In riferimento alla Sua richiesta n. [Nr. entfernt] Le comunichiamo quanto segue:
Currently you can register on "Digit Roma" only if you have an Italian SIM (an Italian phone number).

Distinti Saluti.

DigitRoma schrieb:
In order to prevent any abuse of service, we have to verify the identity of all the users who use this wifi service.
If you own an Italian mobile phone SIM card select "Mobile Phone Number" from the following menu
If you do not already have an account and you do not own an italian SIM, you can perform the registration procedure with the use of a Credit Card. The use of the credit card will be through a secure connection. The credit card number will not be stored in the registration system but only in the database of the Bank for the management of the service. The operation of registration through Credit Card is subject to a handling fee one-off amounting to €0.50, attributable to the bank in charge of the confirmation of validity, which will be deducted from the same institution at the time of registration.

Atschuess
